I hate to be the bearer of bad new but as some of you may have already heard, the San Diego sportfishing community recently lost a fine man in the passing of Ricardo Ruiz who was known as Guido around the waterfront at San Diego Bay. I knew him from seeing him around the sportfishing landings and from the work he did in helping the San Diego Sportfishing Council put on Day at the Docks.
Catherine Miller of the San Diego Sportfishing council has organized a gofundme page to benefit Guido’s surviving family. The gofundme page talks about Guido and states that “He spent many years in San Diego’s sportfishing industry aboard fleet boats as a chef and deckhand. He was a key player in making Day at the Docks happen each year.” The information goes on to state that Guido was also instrumental in putting on the annual “Gator By The Bay” event.
Catherine Miller, Vic Gamboa and Sarah Saraspe have organized a fundraiser “gofundme” page to assist Guido’s family, Diana and son Billy so they can begin to move forward without Guido. They have set a goal of $30,000 and have already raised $24,195.
My guess is that if you have attended Day at the Docks, Gator By the Bay or spent much time around the San Diego Bay sportfishing landings that you might recognize Guido when you see his pictures on the gofundme page. If you are able to help Diana and Billy by contributing to the gofundme fundraiser it would be much appreciated. If you want to check out the gofundme page or make a contribution you can do so at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/remembering-guido
Thank you all for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Bob Vanian
